Caprée, Sabellus [Nancy, Leclerc], 1784. 2 volumes in-4, red morocco, double fillet and roulette in frame, large central rectangle bordered with a large lace with small irons including special irons (goats and satyrs), thistle flowers, honey flies and antique ornaments, ornamented spine, inner lace, gilt edges (Cuzin). First editions of these two sought-after works, composed by the baron d'Hancarville (1719-1805), antiquarian and historian who was the collaborator of the archaeologist William Hamilton. First edition of the illustration, including a frontispiece at the head of volume I, an engraved title for volume II, and 100 (50 + 50) beautiful figures of ancient engraved stones, most of which are erotic. A very nice copy, in a remarkable binding by Cuzin. From the library of Léon Gambetta (ex-libris).
