ALMANACH ROYAL, année 1779.
ROYAL ALMANACH, year 1779. Paris, Le Breton, s.d. [1779]. In-8, fir green morocco, large gilt frame on the boards, coat of arms in the center with the medallion mosaic in red, spine decorated with a fleurdelisé decoration, interior roulette, gilt edges (Period binding). Superb copy in green morocco with the arms of the Marquis de Marigny, younger brother of Madame de Pompadour. Abel-François de Vandières (1727-1781), marquis de Marigny et de Ménars, was appointed superintendent of the King's Buildings in 1752, a position he held until 1773. The binding, of a beautiful green color, is well preserved. It is decorated with a rare and beautiful plate with exotic decoration of palms and tiare flowers, which, attributed to Dubuisson, was not among the 12 presented by Rahir in his 1910 catalog. A reproduction of the plate can be found in the catalog of bindings of the Gumuchian bookshop (pl. CV, n°259). Some spotting. Minor wormholes in the upper case.
