RISORGIMENTO. L.A.S. "Pietro Paolo", Genoa... - Lot 23 - Giquello
RISORGIMENTO. L.A.S. "Pietro Paolo", Genoa May 5 [1860], to Enrico Ludovisi in Pesaro; 2 pages in-8, address; in Italian. Interesting testimony on GARIBALDI. He announces with enthusiasm the departure from Genoa of Garibaldi with 4000 armed men: "they should position themselves between Naples and Rome; Sicily will start again and at the same time Calabria, Abruzzo, Umbria and the Marche will rise up and we will be able from Tuscany to rush and take back the priests and the mercenaries of the Pope. Everything has been agreed upon in Turin... All the Papal Provinces must rise up by all means to thwart the orders of Lamoriciere. I also believe that Venice, Hungary and other places should rise up at the same time. ... All help us, England, Napoleon... Antonelli and the Pope are on a volcano... Ancona and Jesi are full of our friends... A hundred daggers are already on their way to inspire the hero Lamoriciere... Our government and the gallant King are informed of everything and everything is settled in Turin... Many young people gather everywhere united, and armed .... All the brothers of Europe help us"... Etc. We join two letters written on the back of two printed papers: - Lettera del Generale Garibaldi preceduta da quella del deputano Bertani (Genova 5-6 May 1860). On the night of May 5, General Garibaldi set sail for Sicily. This event makes excellent impression in Paris... The revolution is victorious and extends every day more... "3 hours of the afternoon May 10: "One announces that Garibaldi would have disembarked in Calabria"... - Supplemento al numero 145 La Nazione. Spedizione del General Garibaldi (Firenze 24 May 1860). Perugia May 25: "It is 18 days since Garibaldi left... The fight is titanic, and the victory of Garibaldi would be prodigious, because he has against him an army of 35000 men... The cabinet of Turin is between the anvil of the diplomacy and the hammer of the revolution... Russia and France ask for a conference or a congress for the Eastern affairs. The other powers are not disposed to it. England favors the revolution of Sicily and the Italian unity to divert the attention from the East, hoping to involve Napoleon and Alexander...
