Good condition, micro-cracks to the shell. Revolutionary period. Miniature : H. 6 x W. 4,8 cm Box : H. 2,2 x D. 8 cm. Niklas Lafrensen, called "Nicolas Lavreince" or "Lavrince", was born on October 30, 1737 in Stockholm where he died on December 6, 1807. He was a draughtsman and painter in gouache, especially in miniatures. Pupil of his father, the Swedish miniaturist Niclas Lafrensen, known as the Old Man, Lavreince devoted himself at first to the same discipline, before taking, in 1771, the way of Paris, where he painted small portraits in watercolor and oil. Appointed, on his return to Sweden, in 1773, member of the Academy of Stockholm and painter of the court, he nevertheless returned to Paris in 1774, where he produced, until the Revolution, numerous drawings of rococo style intended to be used as models by engravers, all inspired by the playful and graceful spirit of this end of the Old Regime in the genre of Lancret, Pater and Fragonard. He painted the figures in Bellanger's works. These subjects, either gallant, playful or playful, were reproduced by about thirty contemporary engravers and were very successful at the time. He was in contact with Queen Marie-Antoinette, probably through the intermediary of Axel de Fersen (1755-1810), notably in the last moments of 1790. Back in Stockholm after 1791, he painted portraits, small historical scenes and galant parties.
