Situla, Luristan, Iran, c. 8th century BC... - Lot 1 - Giquello
Situla, Luristan, Iran, c. 8th century BC H. 18.6 cm - D. 7.2 cm. Embossed copper alloy A lion hunt unfolds over the entire surface of the cylindrical body. Two men, an archer and a driver, are mounted on a chariot drawn by two horses. They are dressed in "Neo-Assyrian" fashion, wearing conical tiaras and long beards. A leaping lion pierced by an arrow faces them. The horses are treading on the body of a lion already slaughtered. The cone-shaped background is adorned with the head of a fantastic animal, its mouth gaping and its fangs threatening. The rendering of the musculature, the attitude, as well as the size of the lion that emerges from the scene make it a very lively and dynamic work. Beautiful red and green oxidations. Provenance: 2004-2022.
