Jizo Bosatsu, Japan, Edo period H. 29,5 cm. Polychrome and gilded lacquered wood Depicted standing on a gilded lotiform base, he holds in his right hand a shakuj which he shakes to awaken human beings from their illusions, and in his left hand a jewel which grants all wishes. His face is serene, his eyes half-closed, his lips pressed together and his earlobes extended. He wears a monastic robe richly decorated with painted floral and geometric motifs. The nimbus, the pilgrim's staff and the necklace with pendants are made of copper. Provenance : About 2000-2022 Collection Liliane and Michel Durand-Dessert Acquired from Kyoto gallery, Brussels
