Tuscany, Florence, 15th century Height: 17,9 cm (cup changed) Provenance: former collection of the businessman Neville Davison Goldschmid born in London in 1814 and died in Brussels in 1875. According to the inscriptions, the commissioners of this chalice are Daniel and Jacomina of the Portinari family, Florentine merchants and bankers close to the Medici in the 15th century. They gave it to two friars, James and Simon of Placencia, who probably belonged to the Dominican order, as the presence of St. Dominic indicates. The figure of St. Roch can be explained as a patron saint against the plague. Bibliography: Album.
