BOECKLER (Georg Andreas).
Nova architectura curiosa. Nuremberg, Rudolph Johann Helmer, Christian Sigmund Froberg, 1704. 4 parts in a folio volume, stiff vellum, title in ink on the spine, blue edges (Binding of the period). Guilmard, p. 421. A very fine book on hydraulic architecture, composed by Georg Andreas Boeckler (1644-1698), the chief architect of the city of Nuremberg; it first appeared in 1664. Superb engraved intaglio illustration, including a frontispiece and 199 plates offering 230 representations of machines, fountains and water fountains of all kinds, many of them set in gardens and water towers, according to the author's imagination, which is often very fanciful. Handwritten bookplate at the bottom of the first page: Ex-libris Carol Wilhel. Ebreri abetim Eschenbach. Paper a little foxed, small wetness affecting the margin of some plates. Trace of vertical fold on the title and the following leaf.
