Collection of two very beautiful books by the architect Boffrand. Original editions, printed in French and Latin on two columns. The Livre d'architecture is decorated with 69 plates engraved by Babel, Blondel, Hérisset, Lucas, Moreau, Mutel, Tardieu, etc., several of which are double-page or folding, representing plans and sections of various buildings and other edifices: the Bouchefort hunting lodge, the palace of Nancy, the castle of La Malgrange, the one of Lunéville, the Soubise hotel, the Bicêtre well, the Sens bridge, etc. The Description de la fonte de la statue équestre de Louis XIV is illustrated with 20 beautiful plates, several of which are folded or double-page plates, showing the molds and the different stages of the casting of the monument; plate n°I, engraved on copper by Tardieu after Lesueur, represents this statue. A student of Mansart, Germain Boffrand (1667-1754) was the architect of Duke Leopold and directed the reconstruction of the castle of Luneville. He also built the castle of La Malgrange, the palace of Nancy, and worked a lot for aristocrats of Lorraine. Minor spotting and light soiling to a few plates. Missing the second proof of the equestrian statue in the second work (it must be repeated at the end as indicated in a printed note). Upper corner of the last 2 leaves of the volume restored. Restoration to the binding (headbands, corners and spines).
