FER (Nicolas de).
[Description of France]. S.l.n.d. [18th century]. Oblong folio, half blue marbled vellum with small corners, red edges (18th century binding). Composite collection containing a map of France with its acquisitions until the year 1754, 67 topographic plates (plans or views) and 29 plates of engraved explanatory text. Among others, there is a suite of 7 plans of Paris with the 7 engraved texts, published by Daret in 1724, 10 plates for the Hôtel des Invalides, 9 for the castle and gardens of Versailles, 7 for the machine and the castle of Marly, 2 for the Mont Saint-Michel, a plate showing the Pont du Gard, another one the royal canal of Languedoc, and a plate showing the tower of Cordouan. Some light stains and foxing. Some engravings show traces of old washings in brown ink and a plan has been drawn freehand on the back of a plate.
