FESTIVAL. - SACRE DE LOUIS XV (Le), Roy de France & de Navarre, dans l'Eglise de Reims, le dimanche XXV octobre 1722. S.l.n.d. [Paris, 1731]. Large folio, blue morocco, large gilt border, large coat of arms in the center, ornate spine, repeated royal cypher, interior lace, gilt edges (Period binding). One of the most beautiful party books of the 18th century. First edition of this monumental publication describing the coronation ceremonies of Louis XV, then twelve years old, in the cathedral of Reims on October 25, 1722, as well as the costumes of the dignitaries who were there. The work, entirely engraved on copper, is composed of a title-frontispiece, 33 leaves of text decorated with a large border, 9 large vignettes, 9 double-page plates, 30 plates of costumes, a double-page table, and the list of the Names of the painters and engravers who worked on the volume of the coronation of Louis XV The text, written by Antoine Danchet (1671-1748), was revised by Jean-Paul Bignon and Claude Gros de Boze. The illustration, engraved after Pierre Dulin and Pierre Josse Perrot, was entrusted to the best artists of the kingdom: Cochin père, Beauvais, Drevet, Tardieu, Petit, Edelinck, Dupuis, Haussard, etc. A present copy with the coat of arms of Louis XV, in the sumptuous morocco binding specially designed for this purpose and decorated with gilt plates, attributed to Padeloup. Some slight restorations to the binding. Small tear restored at the foot of some plates, paper missing restored at the bottom corner of one of the costume plates.
