GALLANDIUS (Petrus).
De agrorum conditionibus, & constitutionibus limitum [...]. Variorum auctorum [...]. Paris, Adrien Turnèbe, 1554. In-4, fawn calf, double framed with gilt and cold-stamped fillets, azure motifs in the spandrels, oval central medallion with rinceaux motifs on an azure background, spine decorated, gilt edges (Devauchelle). First edition of this collection of classical texts on agronomy, illustrated with numerous woodcuts and technical figures in the text. It contains texts by great Latin authors: De conditionibus agrorum by Siculus Flacus, De agrorum qualitate et controversis limitum by Frontinus, the commentary by Agenius Urbicus, and De limitibus constituendis by Hygin. The edition was edited by Pierre Galland, a scholar who taught Greek at the Collège Royal, and printed by the printer and humanist Adrian Turnèbe (1512-1565). A copy with several handwritten annotations in the margins. It is washed and covered with a perfect pastiche binding by Devauchelle in the taste of the 16th century. Handwritten bookplate at the bottom of the title, in the same hand as several of the annotations: Paschasii Robini Delphii Andigenae 1556. Other handwritten bookplate, clipped, at the top of the title. Title lined, restoration to the corner of two leaves.
