HÉRÉ (Emmanuel).
Plans and elevations of the Royal Square of Nancy & other buildings surrounding it, built by the orders of the King of Poland, Duke of Lorraine. Dedicated to the King of France. Paris, François, s.d. [1753]. Large folio, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, large gilt coat of arms in the center, spine decorated with fleur-de-lis in the caissons (period binding). First edition, including an allegorical frontispiece, a title placed in a frame drawn and engraved by Choffard, a dedication leaf and 13 double-page or folding plates, all engraved on copper. Third and last volume of the great Recueil de Héré, representing the plans, views and elevations of the majestic Place Stanislas in Nancy designed by the architect of the King of Poland, with the surrounding buildings and the magnificent wrought gates forged by the locksmith Jean Lamour. A copy with the large arms of the marshal duc de Richelieu (OHR, pl. 407). Louis-François-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis (1696-1788) took the title of duke of Richelieu at the death of his father in 1716. Marshal of France in 1748, he was appointed governor of Guyenne in October 1755 and general commander of the Mediterranean coast in January 1756. Without the engraved text leaf Réflexions sur les divers bâtiments et sur tous les ornemens qui les accompagnent. Staining on the edge or at the foot of some plates (restored), including the title. Binding restored, notably at the top and bottom of the spine.
