Lunéville, Claude-François Messuy, 1762-1761. 2 works in one volume in-folio, red morocco, gilt scalloped lace, ornate spine, green title page, interior roulette, gilt edges (Period binding). First edition. Illustration engraved on copper, including 11 figures in the text (facades of buildings, views of squares and fountains, etc.), a folding map of the city of Nancy, and 3 beautiful and large folding plates representing the balconies of the city hall and the famous gates of the Place Stanislas executed by the locksmith Jean Lamour under the direction of Emmanuel Héré, Stanislas Leczynski's favorite architect. These gates served as models for many ironworkers; Lamour had the drawings engraved and published them in 1767 in his Recueil des ouvrages de serrurerie. Engraved armorial bookplate with the motto La tour du Seigneur est ma fortresse [sic], which is probably that of Gustave-Chrétien des Salles (1700-1778), marquis of Bulgnéville (Lorraine), lieutenant-general of the King's armies (cf. Chassant & Tausin, Dictionnaire des devises, t. I, p. 175). Bookstore label (18th century) torn on the back cover. Small tear without missing on the edge of the plan. Crack at two spines, small worm work with missing head cap, wetness at top of spine. Rubbing to the binding.
