Approximately 66 pp. various formats (from in-folio to in-8). One of the manuscripts is rich of numerous drawings. At the end of the album, two articles of the period, mounted on tabs. This volume is a testimony of the friendship and the complicity between Rosa Bonheur and Georges Cain. The correspondence gathered in this volume begins during the adolescence of Georges Cain, with the letter of June 24, 1865, addressed to "My little Georges", she describes him as a schoolboy, and concludes with the letter of January 1, 1899, that is to say less than three months before his death. This correspondence is largely friendly, and follows Georges Cain's career from far and wide, as in his letter of June 15, 1897, where it states "I see from your card that you are installed at Carnavalet where my letter will find you [...]". He was then curator of the Carnavalet Museum. The first manuscript entitled Rosa Bonheur Raconté par elle-même, is a precious working manuscript (first draft), rich of many corrections and additions. With 46 pages, the text is illustrated with works by Rosa Bonheur (separate prints) which are found in the published article. On the first page Georges Cain indicates "this manuscript annotated and signed by Rosa Bonheur belongs to Georges Cain" on the back, Rosa Bonheur's autograph indication in English "To the readers of the Ladies Home Journal Rosa Bonheur". Indeed, this manuscript was published in its entirety in the December 1896 issue of the American magazine The Ladies' Home Journal (p 13,14, 42). This four-handed manuscript is an autobiography of the painter, rich in anecdotes. The second manuscript is signed by the painter on page 4. It includes 7 pp. of which one page with a drawing (p 3). This manuscript seems to be a synopsis of the article mentioned above. The third and last manuscript of 12 pp. 1/2 strongly illustrated by Georges Cain, gathers indications, anecdotes, dates which come to supplement or were used as framework to the manuscript of the article. Bibliography : The Ladies 'Home Journal, Philadelphia, December 1896, Vol XIV, N°1. p13,14 and 42 (second column).
