[BERRY Duchesse de]. MONTBEL Guillaume baron de (1781-1861). Ministre et conseiller de Charles X.
L.A.S. to M. le Baron. Prague, April 18, 1833. 2 pp. in-4, slight defects and restorations to the fold. Interesting political letter shortly after the expedition of the Duchess of Berry, in which the former minister announces the forthcoming declaration of Charles X in exile, with the support of Austria "We finished yesterday the business of the declaration that the King signed [...]. I address the whole to H.H. the Prince of Metternich by asking him to send them without delay to M. de Neumann [...]". He informs of the forthcoming departure of the Count d'Agoult for Frankfurt, he asks to intervene with M. de Haendel to deliver a passport to his servant who will have to be designated as merchant. "M. d'Agoult is known to M. de Haendel and to several people in Frankfurt. It is therefore essential that he does not stay there. As his intention is to return to France, he asks, if the declaration should give rise to diplomatic correspondence, never to be referred to by his name but by that of Charles Dufour. I spoke to the King about the assistance and the enlightened and benevolent advice that you have been willing to give me in this whole affair. He especially charged me to thank you on his behalf [...]".
