BLACAS d'Aulps Pierre-Louis duc de (1771-1839). Ministre et favori de Louis XVIII.
L.S. to the former bishop of Strasbourg. Goritz, May 25, 1838. 1 p. double leaf in-4, address on verso, broken red wax seal, postal mark of Turin. Letter to Mgr Tharin, former bishop of Strasbourg and tutor of the Duke of Bordeaux, in which Blacas thanks him for "some copies of your work on Les Gémissements et les Espérances de la Religion catholique en France. I have hastened to give to the King and his august family those copies which you wished to offer them; they have charged me to give you their thanks [...] I intend to leave tomorrow morning for Kirchberg, where the Royal family will not be long in coming; they are in the best of health [...]. The former bishop of Strasbourg had been appointed in 1826 as tutor to the Duke of Bordeaux; curiously, after 1830, he had long looked upon Charles X as a usurper, firmly believing in the so-called Louis XVII, this false Dauphin calling himself Count de Richemont!
