Red morocco, gilt decoration, triple fillet in frame, spine decorated with apparent titling, gilt edges PROVENANCE: Jean-Thomas Aubry (1714-1785; ex-libris) Jean Deslyons (1615-1700) was one of those theologians who wished to remain in the third party, between that of Port-Royal and that of the Jesuits and Molinists. He wished to reconcile the very divergent points of view and was in return accused of being soft. His activity was also focused on the cathedral of Senlis of which he was dean. There he delivered "scandalous" sermons in which he invited his congregation to beware of rosaries and Marian representations. Abbé Aubry (1715-1785), parish priest of Saint-Louis-en-l'Île, had an incomparable collection of natural history, including naturalized birds from all over the world. His bookplate was composed by François-Nicolas Martinet (1731-1800), the great naturalist who assisted Buffon.
