Tapisserie fleurdelysée Tapestry from the Ateliers de la Marche (Aubusson and Felletin region) before the creation of the Manufactures Royales. 17th century, circa 1630 H. 2.28 x W. 4.62 m H. 7ft 6 x W. 15ft 2 This rare tapestry is of great historical interest. Description: The arms of France and Navarre, surrounded by the collars of the Order of Saint Michael (an order created by Louis XI) and the Order of the Holy Spirit (an order created by Henri III) are placed in the center, in the upper part of the tapestry. Fleur-de-lys surmounted by the closed royal crown, inserted repetitively between crossed Hercules clubs, stand out against a deep blue background. The tapestry is framed by a light border bearing the monogram of King L. The clubs of Hercules are the emblem of Louis XIII, his speaking arms; similarly, the porcupine was the emblem of Louis XII, the salamander that of François I and later the sun would be that of Louis XIV. Material and condition : Woven in wool and silk (wool warp, wool and silk weft). Bright colors, but some old restorations and missing lower border; probably reduced in height.
