Kasim-Ouchak Caucasus rug, probably from the Karabagh region - Lot 64
Kasim-Ouchak Caucasus rug, probably from the Karabagh region The upper and lower sections feature the stylized representations typical of the ancient dragon composition. Lightly colored, with jagged motifs running through them, they have a characteristic Y-shape. Both sides extend into the corners of the central motif, and feature geometric palmettes. Polychrome cruciform motifs and gülhs cover the field and medallion. The main white border features rosettes linked by a double stem. The decoration is similar to the embroidered silk fabrics and dragon carpets of the 17th and 18th centuries. The rosette has been transformed into a large white flower with four petals, the center of which is occupied by a rhombus and a diamond with hooks. The flower is set within a large red cross motif that occupies the central part of the field. Hand-knotted wool rug on wool warp and weft Circa 1900 2.43 x 1.28 m - 8ft x 4ft 2 ½ Fine condition
