Melayer carpet from northwest Persia, south of Hamadan This rug is an example of Melayer's northern and western work. On a red background with a fine, classic herati motif, a midnight-blue counter-ground with the same design is set off by a long central red medallion, extended by two pendants that interlock at either end to form a mihrab.
