Le Prince de Condé, historical novel. Suivi d'éclaircissemens et de pièces intéressantes sur les règnes de François II, de Charles XI et de Henri III. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de P. Didot, se trouve chez les marchands de nouveautés, s.d. [1792]. 2 volumes in-8, bradel red paper boards, smooth spine decorated, thousand-point decoration with bees in the boxes, number on tail, untrimmed (Period binding). This Didot edition joins the collection of historical novels published by Benjamin de La Borde. A large paper copy from the library of Queen Hortense de Beauharnais (1783-1837), wife of Louis Bonaparte, Napoleon's youngest brother, and Queen of Holland from 1806 to 1810. The binding features a gilded H on the tail and a bee motif, one of the Bonaparte symbols, in the spine boxes. Finally, the crowned monogram H, in black ink, is affixed to the first text page of each volume. Slight foxing, spine faded to orange.
