COLLECTION M. de R. Fang mask Gabon Wood H. 70 cm Provenance: M. de R. collection. Another interesting example of a bikereu (bikeghe) mask, this large helmet seems to adopt more animal than human features. The strong superciliary arches, the ridge at the top and the black color evoke the appearance of the terrible forest gorilla (ngi). According to Louis Perrois, "Bikereu masks are directly descended from Ngil masks. They were still in use at the time of the last war, in the Lambaréné region". Broken and missing top of skull. Sold as is, without base.
