COLLECTION MONSIEUR X. Baule pulley Ivory Coast Wood, beads H. 25 cm Provenance Monsieur X Collection. Baule pulley depicting a rider on his mount, the axis of rotation originally fixed to the animal's forelegs. The eyes of both subjects are inlaid with pearls. This iconography is extremely rare. One of the only comparable works is an example from the famous Harold Rome collection (see Robbins and Nooter, 1989, p. 186, fig. 378).
