COLLECTION MONSIEUR X. Cimier Ejagham Nigeria Basketry, wood, animal leather H. 28 cm Provenance Monsieur X Collection. The crest consists of a woven rattan skullcap topped by a wooden head covered in animal hide. The eyes and teeth are made of small bleached wooden plates, while the temples and cheeks reveal keloids typical of the scarification marks worn in ancient times by the Ejagham people. The eyebrows are highlighted with black lines. This type of crest belonged to warrior or hunter associations and was danced at funerals or initiation rituals.
