COLLECTION MONSIEUR X. Igbo-Izzi mask Nigeria Wood H. 50 cm Provenance Monsieur X Collection. This beautiful ogbodo enyi (spirit of the elephant) mask, carved in heavy wood, combines anthropomorphic and animal features: pachyderm tusks project from the end of the face, occupied at its center by a human nose, while a trunk unexpectedly springs from the middle of the forehead. The bold, cubic volumes are punctuated by black and white polychrome. At the back of the skull rises a human face known as a ntekpe, which we don't know if it's a portrait of a notable or a "child of the spirit". Old breaks at the end of the tusks.
