COLLECTION MONSIEUR X. Cimier Ejagham Nigeria Wood, animal leather H. 42 cm Provenance Monsieur X Collection. Interesting and rare crest consisting of a wooden core covered with animal hide, representing a quadruped - perhaps a leopard - with bent legs, mouth wide open with two rows of teeth, half-closed eyes and two round, erect ears. The animal supports two Janus heads on its back, adorned with hair and a beard. This type of crest belonged to warrior or hunter associations and was danced at funerals or initiation rituals.
