Collection Monsieur X.
Closely related to the Senufo, the Ligbi became Muslims a long time ago. However, they have maintained a masked festival, the do, which closes the month of Ramadan. During this festival, the leu, or warthog mask, opens the ceremony by dancing alone. Our example is perfectly classical: an oval part in front of the face is pierced by two holes to allow the dancer to see. The face is punctuated by four bulbs and a small pair of ears. The second part of the mask features a tubular appendage with two horns, evoking the animal's snout. Beautiful patina.
