Crown, peue'ei Marquesas Islands Coconut fiber, teeth, pearls H. 25 cm - l. approx. 5 cm Provenance Acquired in situ in the early 20th century By descent This crown was traditionally worn by women, although men could also wear it on certain occasions. It is made of a double row of braided coconut fibers to which dolphin teeth are attached by means of small loops threaded through colored trading beads.
