Hodler (Ferdinand) - Lot 59
Hodler (Ferdinand) Ɵ Me and my wife. Symbolic painting. Autograph card signed with original drawing. Addressed to Oscar Miller in Solothurn from Vienna on January 19, 1904 (9 x 14 cm). Devauchelle folder. Autograph card signed with original drawing titled Moi et ma femme, Tableau symbolique monogrammé F.H., with signatures of other artists, notably Cuno Amiet. Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) is considered one of Switzerland's greatest painters. A close friend of Klimt and Jawlensky, he was a great promoter of the avant-garde before the First World War, with a body of work inspired by Symbolism but including elements of Realism and Expressionism. He was appreciated for his sense of humor, as demonstrated by the drawing on the present postcard (a large bear with a much smaller bear), signed, among others, by another great Swiss painter, Cuno Amiet. Provenance: Oscar Miller.
