[Marc (Franz)] - Lot 75
[Marc (Franz)] Ɵ Buch der Toten. Herausgegeben von Wolf Przygode. Roland-Verlag, München, 1919. First edition (32.6 x 23.6 cm). An immaculate copy with original dust jacket, very rare in this condition, of this work dedicated to German writers and artists who died in the Great War, the only work with the Blaue Reiter deluxe edition to contain a woodcut by Franz Marc (Tiger), one of the painter's masterpieces. An important publication at the end of the First World War, in which several German writers took part: Georg Trakl, Ernst Stadler, Ernst Wilhelm Lotz, Alfred Lichtenstein, Gustave Sack and Peter Baum, honoring those who fell: Hermann Kasack, Adolf von Hatzfeld, Max Hermann and Kurt Heynicke, with a tribute to Franz Marc through his extraordinary Tiger wood, reminiscent of Graeco-Scythian objects from the 5th century BC. Although the print run was 1,400 copies, it is extremely rare to find a copy in perfect condition as issued and with its dust jacket intact. Provenance: Private collection.
