This is the very first monograph on the great sculptor, architect and painter Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) written by the Italian art historian Filippo Baldinucci (1625-1697). It was commissioned just after the artist's death by Queen Christine of Sweden - then in exile in Rome -, to whom he dedicates this edition, as well as by various friends and patrons of Bernini.
