This edition is by Giampietro Zanotti (1674-1765), who wrote the preface, the letter to the readers, and an extensive index by place, subject and artist. This is why his name has been inscribed by a contemporary hand on the back of this copy. Zanotti was a Bolognese art critic in the direct lineage of Malvasia, known for having founded the Bolognese Academy of Fine Arts, then called the Clementine Academy. Malvasia's Pitture di Bologna was first published during the author's lifetime, in 1686.
