PROVENANCE: Jean Perrotin Grandville (handwritten bookplate on one endpaper, dated 1790) Small tear to upper headpiece Lyon engineer and officer Gaspard Grollier de Servières, grand-nephew of Jean Grolier, was one of the most remarkable curiosities of the Grand Siècle. His inventions were admired throughout Europe. His cabinet of curiosities was renowned, and Louis XIV "went two days in a row" to visit it, as did a large number of foreign travelers such as John Locke. Unlike the other cabinets, this one is entirely the work of Grollier de Servières himself, who invented and executed it all, which sets it apart from other works of its kind and makes it particularly attractive. This is the second edition of this work. BIBLIOGRAPHY : G. Kaucher, Les Jombert, no. 401.
