The original edition was published in 1785. This later edition contains 42 additional pages of text under the title "appendix". The Villa Albani was completed in 1763 for Cardinal Alessandro Albani, nephew of Clement XI. It housed his collections of antiquities and sculptures, which had been catalogued by Johann Joachim Winckelmann.
