ILLUSTRATION: frontispiece engraved by Saint-Aubin after J. G. Salvage, depicting the Laocoon group. CONTEMPORARY BINDING SIGNED BY LEFEBVRE. Long-grained red morocco, gilt decoration, friezes and fillets framing the boards, long spine decorated with a lyre and gilt statues, green tabis lining and endpapers, gilt edges.

Antonio Pochini (1786-1829), a nobleman from Padua, was editor of the Giornale veneto de religione e di morale. His verse epistles evoke the antique statues and paintings of the Musée Napoléon, the Musée des Monuments français (created during the Revolution in the buildings and chapel of the Petits-Augustins convent) and several buildings and gardens, whose history is detailed in a note at the end of each of the four parts.
