COLLATION and ILLUSTRATION: 88 pp. 42 hors-texte lithographs, 12 by G. Engelmann, 4 drawn and engraved by Augustin de Saint-Aubin, two after F. Ertinger and R. Delaunay and 4 engraved by Desmaisons, 19 of which are folding. CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Long-grained red morocco, gilt decoration, coat of arms in the center of the boards, framed lace, long ornate spine. PROVENANCE: Louis XVIII (1788-1824; arms: O.H.R. pl. 2497, iron no. 6 with variants); armorial bookplate with the initials M.L. with the motto: "Perfer et obdura". Théophile Marion Dumersan (1780-1849), appointed assistant curator at the Royal Library's Cabinet des médailles et antiques in 1842, provided an abundant description of the Cabinet in a systematic and visual order, by bays and rooms. He had developed a new system for classifying medals geographically and chronologically.
