Yoruba section Nigeria Wood H. 27 cm Rare and interesting small panel depicting a kneeling female figure holding a scepter in each hand. The high-relief sculpture is generously proportioned, with the legs projecting forward. The dignitary depicted here is probably a Sango priestess, brandishing two scepters, one adorned with a sphere, the other with a head surmounted by the double axe symbol of the orisha. The back of the shutter is engraved with a bird.
