Baule Pulley Ivory Coast Wood H. 13 cm Baule loom pulley surmounted by a stylized buffalo head oriented horizontally. Geometrically treated, the animal's head is topped by a series of four horns. The forehead is rounded, the eyes arched and the nose straight. The open mouth reveals tapering teeth. The narrow stirrup is finely sculpted. Note a peculiarity found on a few rare pulleys with the same iconography: being non-monoxyle, the animal's head is mobile. Beautiful patina attesting to prolonged use.
