Comb Solomon Islands Palm wood and dyed, woven wicker fibers H. 18.5 cm Provenance : - Collected by Dr. John Rabe in 1888 - Leo and Lillian Fortess, Honolulu - Private collection Conical comb made of dark wood rods tightly bound with dyed plant fibers. This type of comb was a body ornament reserved for men. Works in the Fortess collection, a number of which were collected by Dr. John Rabe, invariably bear labels indicating their provenance. This comb, for example, is labeled "Comb with grass plaiting, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, Collected by Dr. John Rabe - 1888."
