Made from a profusion of materials, this figure is distinguished by its expressiveness and rich ornamentation (billum bags, shells, dagger, cassowary feathers, pigments). Representing ancestors, these sculptures served as receptacles for protective spirits. They were believed to have a powerful influence on women's fertility, the harvest and the abundance of pigs. These "dolls" were called upon during ceremonies when offerings of food were made to them. Condition report: Surface damage and wear, some loss of material (bark, feathers, etc.).
