This anthropomorphic figure with its long, curved nose features a polychromy dominated by yellow and white. As the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York points out, for the Abelam people living north of the Sepik River in the Prince Alexander Mountains, paint was a magical substance that enhanced the beauty of the figures and gave them supernatural power.
