Qauata parade shield Star Harbour area Solomon Islands Wood H. 158 cm Provenance : Former private collection, France: according to family tradition, acquired circa 1930 Passed on by descent and remained in the family ever since. Beautiful and important Qauata shield, used to ward off spearheads in mimicry parries. The imposing upper part is boomerang-shaped. On either side of the shield is a delicate, curved midrib ending in a W. An antique label "I. Salomon" is glued to the middle of the object. Note the patina and beautiful age.
