CHAR René - Lot 92
CHAR René 4 AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED AND 1 AUTOGRAPH POSTCARD SIGNED TO Jean VAGUE. L'Isle sur Sorgue. March, May, December 1953. 7 pages in-8. René Char congratulates Jean Vague on his poems and talks to Albert Camus to help him get published "... in this poem in particular, you have incised a beautiful concrete rainbow where I hear your poet's footstep mark its confidence well on the ground"... "I had known for two days that the prospective publisher had not made up his mind. Camus did all he could, but the box is heavy to lift"... "Camus is not well between us. You know that he writes few or no letters, but he does the impossible discreetly, unfortunately, dear Jean, but we are not barons!" (allusion to the Princesse de Bassiano, Marguerite Caetani, director of the literary magazines Commerce and Botteghe oscure, and a close friend of Albert Camus).
