DEUX Fred - Lot 110
DEUX Fred IMAGINATION BLESSING ARTISTS. DYPTIQUE. ORIGINAL DRAWING SIGNED IN GRAPHITE AND COLORED PENCIL. 1991/92. 2 sheets 65 x 103 cm each (tiny tear). Superb drawing in graphite and colored pencil, consisting of two sheets on Arches paper, forming a diptych, originally joined by scotch tape. The first sheet is titled, signed and dated by Fred Deux on the front. A third sheet in the same format contains an autograph text in pencil, an autobiographical reflection on Fred Deux's relationship with drawing: I became a man as one becomes a night lover; a watchman who walks aimlessly. No sooner have I drawn this sentence than the voice inside me orders me to shut up... I'd like to write, indelibly, that this is how I became a draughtsman, but I can't. I haven't become a man. I haven't become a man. Radically, I plunged backwards into a lake to serve as prey. Since I've been living in my life, I've watched over the unattainable. A task devoid of domination. A stain that nothing explains, except that I've clothed my reality in beautiful gray rags. For a while I colored them... it's no longer the desire that makes my wrist articulate... the drawing is no longer the drawing. Each line that follows is internalized in an eternal recommencement, me trying to move away, searching in the dark for the hand of the drawing. I reach out for what will not always be my hand. The hope of my books is to deposit my words of words. Become, never. Becoming, excluded. I have not left my place. I am spiritually faithful. A man kills the artist who loves the man
