LEIRIS Michel - Lot 172
LEIRIS Michel 3 AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED AND A POSTCARD TO JACQUES BARON. 1975-1984. 4 1/2 pages in-8 and in-4, 2 envelopes preserved. Warm correspondence between two fellow Surrealists who met in 1920: I'm leaving again tomorrow and I intend to get on with my literary work. This long thing I've told you about, that I'm working on, is progressing only with despairing slowness... I'm sending you here a quotation from Mallarmé... "I'm stammering and bruised: poetry is the expression, through human language reduced to its essential rite, of the mysterious meaning of existence"... in my opinion, this is the most profound definition of poetry ever attempted. What do you think? Enclosed is a manuscript by Jacques Baron: Michel LEIRIS. FRÈLE BRUIT. AUTOGRAPHIC MANUSCRIPT IN INK, 4 pages large in-4, with erasures and corrections by Jacques Baron. Rave review of Baron's Frèle bruit, 4th and final volume of Leiris's Règle du jeu.
