COPPÉE (François). - Lot 21
COPPÉE (François). Le Passant. Comedy in one act and in verse. Paris, Armand Magnier, 1897. In-8, gray morocco, compartments on covers formed by a wide listel imitating a stained glass window, the central compartment occupied by an ochre fleur-de-lis, the others by two branches of gray foliage, spine decorated with the same foliage, caramel morocco lining framed by dark gray listels, gray moire endpapers, gilt edges, half-maroquin folder, slipcase, cover (Marius Michel). 47 compositions by Louis-Édouard Fournier, etched by Léon Boisson. François Coppée's manuscript and Massenet's music page have been heliographed by Arents. Edition of 300 copies, this one on vellum not corresponding to any of the descriptions; it includes one state more than the 15 japon copies: four states including one bistre, one with remarks, one pure etching with remarks, the final etching in eight states. Magnificent mosaic-lined binding by Marius Michel, introducing us to the play's medieval universe. From the Jean Borderel library, with his bookplate stamped on the lining (I, 1938, n°52).
