First edition of Buffon's great work. The set includes the 15 volumes of the Histoire de la terre, illustrated with a frontispiece, 567 (of 568) plates, 9 folding plates and 2 large maps by Vaugondy, the 9 volumes of the Histoire naturelle des oiseaux, illustrated with 262 plates, 4 volumes for the Histoire des minéraux, and 6 volumes of Supplément illustrated with a portrait of Buffon, 2 maps and 144 plates. Total: one frontispiece, one portrait, 9 folding plates, 4 maps and 973 plates. Missing the Loris plate in volume XIII. Some leaves and plates foxed. Some plates foxed in volume XIII. Some binding defects, with some volumes in different bindings.
