DENON (Dominique Vivant).
Planches du voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte. S.l.n.d. [Paris, Imprimerie de Didot, An X (1802)]. Atlas in-folio, dark green half-chagrin, spine decorated (Binding circa 1860). Atlas complete with 143 beautiful plates numbered 1 to 141, 20 bis and 54 bis, representing views, monuments, hieroglyphs, scenes of life, animals, etc. (Gay, n°1998. - Ibrahim-Hilmy, I, p. 172.) The plates are beautifully printed on strong paper. Denon was the first to draw the monuments of Upper Egypt, and his return to France with Bonaparte enabled him to be the first artist to publish reproductions of this distant civilization, making his work extremely popular (De Meulenaere, pp. 62-64). Without text volume. Slight foxing to some plates. Small tear at head cover.
