One of the finest atlases published in Italy in the 16th century, the original edition appeared in Venice in 1572.
This 1620 edition is a reprint of the Venetian edition of 1604: it includes an architectural title-frontispiece and 48 maps in the text, all engraved in intaglio.
These include maps of America: a map of the island of Cuba, a map of Isola Spagnuola (Haiti), a plan of Mexico City (Citta & Isola del Temistitan, p. 157), and a map of North America with the Northwest Passage and California depicted as a peninsula. Also included is a map of the Moluccan Islands (Indonesia).
Handwritten bookplate scratched on frontispiece. Stamp in violet Rappresehntante ink on last flyleaf.
Tear without missing at lower corner of pp. 19-20, restoration to kraft paper on title and last leaf, purple ink mark in margin of p. 90. Some foxing and soiling. Covers bumped.
